The 2018 Nova Scotia Senior Lacrosse League season was one of the league's most competitive seasons to date. The top seed Colby Pool Sharks defeated the Fighting Orangutan in the final series, claiming their third consecutive league championship. While the league has consistently produced entertaining lacrosse events for years, there are still ongoing challenges in the future of men's senior lacrosse in the Nova Scotia.
The four-team league has found a new home in its fifth different venue since 2011. The new Dartmouth 4-pad located in the Burnside Industrial Park is considered one of the most centralized arena venues for the Halifax Regional Municipality. While the brand new arena has excellent amenities, a concern for the league which stresses the importance of building its legitimacy is playing full seasons in rinks designated as "practice pads" with limited seating or no bleachers .
Much like other NSSLL seasons, there were a number of games during the 2018 season in which team rosters were not full, and a few games where rosters were not even half-full. The attendance issue has been an issue for teams in the past and it continues to project itself as an issue in the future. The league general managers will discuss this issue and changes may be coming as early as the 2019 season.
Among the general managers, there has been concern over the lack of volunteers within our league in team coaches, trainers, and bench staff. The league is also seeking a dedicated commissioner to guide the league's growth, direction and organization.
Thank you,
